This adorable family made the trip  to my Northfield studio from the Minneapolis area for a simple cake smash photography session.

Before we got into the messy part of the simple cake smash photography session, we snuck in some family pictures. This was the third time I have photographed this little girl since she was born.  It is always so much fun to watch how much little ones change in that first year.  This little one year old girl also had the best hair, that only got better as she reach a year old.

For family pictures, we started with her alone with each parent.  Once we got some snuggled pictures with each parent, we captured them as a family.  One year olds can be a wild card, and this little one was no different. She was not impressed with posing with the family.  I think she knew what was coming, and was ready to get into the tasty part of her simple cake smash photography session.

One of my favorite set ups for one year sessions and simple cake smash photography session, is this little all white corner of the studio.  It is a great place to photograph little ones and let their personalities really shine.  This little one year old girl was also a huge fan of playing with the curtains in the studio.  They made great peek-a-boo props, as she hid behind them and would pop her face out at me and laugh.  She was so adorable.

One of the newest props in the studio is this adorable little swing.  I love that it is a great way to photograph little ones, while both keeping them confined – because 12 month olds are faster than you think!  But is also is something that is familiar to them.  By this age, 1 years olds have been a swing and know that is is something fun. They all end up laughing and enjoying this little part of the session where they get to relax a little and just laugh while swinging.

The cake smash sessions I offer in the studio are simple cake smash photography session.  They have very limited props, usually on a whit backdrop, with a simple cake, that allows the cake and the one year old to take center stage at the session.  A simple cake smash photography session is a great way to still capture that first birthday milestone with a photography session, but also include the tradition of a cake smash – but with a toned down approach.  It also give parents pictures from a cake smash session, but in a format that lets them display the images in their home.  The simple cake smash photography session images are mostly white – thanks to the simple backdrop – allowing them to be easily displayed in homes and compliment everyone’s home decor.

I also love how dad got in on the action of this simple cake smash photography session and helped her with the frosting.  How cute is that!
