When clients ask for a Nerstrand Big Woods State Park photography session, it is always a favorite of mine. Nerstrand Big Woods State Park is one of my favorite park, close to my photography studio in Northfield MN, and has one of the best waterfalls. A Nerstrand Big Woods State Park photography session only gets better when clients ask to bring their dogs along – because who doesn’t love hanging out with a bunch of dogs?
Not only do these two have adorable dogs, but they are super adorable themselves. We had so much fun at their Nerstrand Big Woods State Park photography session. Their sense of humor was great, and really came through in their Nerstrand Big Woods State Park photography session images. There are so many pictures that capture that genuine love and humor between them.
Their dogs are just as lovable as them. They have a beautiful blended family of dogs. Each of them have a dog that has been part of their life for years, from before they began their relationship. And they added a third dog – or puppy- to their family together. It’s such an adorable blended fur family. They also love their dogs so much. They took individual pictures with each of them, a big family picture, and individuals of each dog. You can tell these three dogs are well loved – and even a little spoiled.
Nerstrand Big Woods State Park Photography Session | Waterfall Images
The first part of the Nerstrand Big Woods State Park photography session was at the waterfall. If you haven’t been to the waterfall at Nerstrand Big Woods State Park, you need to make the trip. It is a short walk from the parking lot, and only 1 mile round trip. The path is nicely groomed with a few steps. The waterfall is a big attraction in the area, especially in the summer, so it was great that we had a day for our Nerstrand Big Woods State Park photography session when there weren’t too many people at the waterfall.
The waterfall can change depending on local rainfall, and due to recent rainfalls the waterfall was full and made for a beautiful backdrop for our Nerstrand Big Woods State Park photography session. We took pictures below the falls, where there is a large flat area. It gave us lots of room to take pictures of the couple lone, and also pictures with the dogs.
Nerstrand Big Woods State Park Photography Session | Trail Images
After our time at the waterfall, we walked over to a nice part of the park with beautiful trails through the woods for the second part of the Nerstrand Big Woods State Park photography session. The trail is through a hardwood forest, and a great spot with lots of beautiful greenery for a backdrop and little peeks of sunlight that highlight the beauty of the forest.
This little area with the railing on one side of the path is a favorite spot to stop during a Nerstrand Big Woods State Park photography session. The railing helps to break up some of the green backdrop, and also gives us some variation in posing options too. It was also a great place to get some action shots of this big dog family in action. I can’t believe how well trained all the dogs were, and how well these two manage to walk that many dogs and make it look so easy.

If you are bringing your dogs with to a Nerstrand Big Woods State Park photography session, I have to pre-warn you I will treat them like your children and get some adorable in action shots. Ones with lots of hugs and kisses. For babies need all the sale love as human babies. And the dogs at this Nerstrand Big Woods State Park photography session were all about showing mom and dad some love too. These are my favorite images from the session, and ones that truly capture this family and their love for each other. Sloppy dog kisses and all.
Nerstrand Big Woods State Park Photography Session | Couple Poses
We took some time without the dogs, to focus on just these two. There is a little spot on the trail that is a favorite of mine for capturing these little candid like poses of couples. It is a great way to let them be themselves, and capture those sill moments that are more true to them on a daily basis than stuffy looking posed images. These two were such a blast at their Nerstrand Big Woods State Park photography session, and really let their true selves come out for pictures.
